Today more than ever, consumers are buying beef direct from the farm. With food safety issues making headlines, it’s nice to know where the meat you eat comes from. Buying beef in quantity makes economic sense, too.
The TLC-treatment at Deitschland Farm produces quality
beef for your family in a healthy, outdoor environment that finds our
cattle grazing the rolling hills of Berks County, PA, raising their
calves and ultimately putting meat on the table that is nutritious and
tastes great.

FAQs About Freezer Beef
To get a general idea of how much
meat you will be buying, a mixed quarter contains roughly 25 rib and
sirloin steaks (16-ounce), a half dozen round steaks (2-2.5 lbs.), a
dozen two-three pound roasts, and sixty one-pound packages of ground
beef. A rule of thumb is that you will need one cubic foot of freezer
space for each 35-40 pounds of cut and wrapped meat.
An average beef carcass weighs about 700 pounds; a side weighs slightly
over 350 pounds. This refers to hanging weight or the gross weight by
which the carcass is sold. The price you pay is based on hanging
weight. To figure freezer space needed, a beef side will weigh about
250 pounds after processing.
Beef can be stored for roughly a year . We recommend not using
self-defrosting freezers to store your beef. Your Deitschland Farm
steaks, roasts, and burgers can be enjoyed on holidays or any day you
want to celebrate life’s ordinary pleasures with a mouth-watering meal.
